- Weekly war journal. New York City: The fate of our troops in Arnhem is still in doubt. Paratroopers are referred to as, "Sky Troops" and they are in danger. General Patton's 3rd army on the Western Front has gained 9 miles in Alsace Lorraine. American 7th is slogging in mud in the Belfort Gap toward the Vosges mountains. Americans have broken German's "Gothic Line" fifteen miles outside of Bologna, Italy. British troops on the Adriatic are moving four miles beyond Rimini. -- Cairo: An important Arab states preparatory protocol to form an Arab League of Nations is to take place, hosted by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostyafa El-Nahas in Alexandria, Egypt at Antoniades Palace. "The 'Palestine Question' will be first on the agenda." An American economic mission under W.S. Culbertson, will meet in Cairo, Egypt tomorrow to work out plans for post-war trade. A Russian economic mission has arrived in Tehran, Iran for post-war trade plans with Persian officials. -- Washington, D.C.: Germany is to be quarantined for 10 years after hostilities cease. Further restrictions may last one or two more generations. Secretary of Treasury Morgenthau favors destruction Germany as a modern industrial state and turning it into an agricultural state. Secretary of War Stimson and Secretary of State Hull are opposed. Editorial about post-war plans for Germany. -- London: Things are not going well for the Nazis. German slave labor is turning out defective ammunition. General Montgomery's 2nd British army in Holland is not mad the grade up to a vast paratroop unit. War correspondents Walter Cronkite and Alan Wood are there reporting on the airborne troops. Nazi's have made advances in Holland. The Polish Cabinet wrote a resolution that the Polish Commander Kazimierz Sosnkowski be ousted. -- General MacArthur's headquarters: Our aircraft are striking at Mindinao, preparing for an invasion of the Philippines.
