Summary
  • Grape Nuts Flakes program. The program originates from the Quantico, Virginia Marine Base. Jack auditions for a part with Virginia Bruce and Gregory Ratoff in a movie about the South. The band fades into silence after the first commercial. Rochester calls about a renter he's allowed to rent on Jack's property
  • Gabriel Heatter. President Roosevelt has met with President Vargas of Brazil while in Casablanca. U-boat danger was discussed in detail. Brazil will increase its encounters with U-boats. President Roosevelt feels the allies' expedition in North African has eliminated any possibility of a German-held Dakar. Agreements between General Giraud and Charles de Gaulle are economic and military but not political. Uruguay has resumed diplomatic relations with Russia. Unlike past years, Hitler will not make a public speech tomorrow, January 30th. Goebbels will read Hitler's proclamation. He has spoken on January 30th (his anniversary for his rise to power) for eight of the past nine years. Russians have captured Kharkov. United States Air Force is bombing the port at Sfax, Tunisia where Nazi ships deliver supplies for Hitler's military. United States is having success against the Japanese in Guadalcanal. Heatter speculates on the contents of Hitler's next speeches and what he should be telling the German people about Germany's losses and failures on the war front. Heatter is very much against a British proposal to declare a moratorium on having babies until the end of the war. [Recording ends.]
