Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a technology for performing spectral analysis of materials with little sample preparation, rapid measurement times, and minimal damage to the sample. Micro-LIBS is a form of LIBS which can be used to study micron-sized particles. Micron-sized particles and their composition are important to industry and especially for additive manufacturing. The specific purpose of this project is to make a micro-LIBS system to identify micron-sized targets and extract meaningful micro-LIBS spectra. For this research several different stainless-steel powders containing various trace elements will be studied using a micro-LIBS setup. These powders will also be used to test the usability of calibration curves made for nickel in previous research. The experimental setup, data acquisition, and data analysis processes in this thesis are useful in general for any micro-LIBS analysis
