Summary
  • Danny misses smoking cigarettes. Reads his first fan mail letter out loud about raising hares. Other fan mail is about anyone and anything than Danny -- Life of Danny Kaye [Recording ends]
  • Weekly War Journal. New York City world headlines: Patton's forces are fighting in "The Bulge" and have now arrived five miles from Houffalize. First Army is nine miles to the north of Houffalize. British heavy bombers have attacked the synthetic oil plant at Politz. Moscow reports gains of 25 miles on the 37 mile wide front by 2 1/2 millions Russian troops. Japan's main island, Honshu, is burning from bombings. Formosa was attacked for the second time in a week. General MacArthur has made an 8 mile advance toward Manila. -- Paris: The conflict of the French press with De Gaulle. Power supplies are scarce and are being rationed. -- Washington, D.C.: Roosevelt is to begin his fourth term. The Big Three meeting will change history. Economic analysis of the world post World War II. -- London: things are looking better for Britain. Long range plans are going on. There is a temporary coal shortage for home heat. -- Western Front: with the First Army in Holland: The Allies are on the offensive in "The Bulge." Sleeping in the snow. Freezing cold but are making progress toward Houffalize. Cutting pieces out of blankets to wrap feet and ankles. [Most inaudible.] -- Washington, D.C.: A diplomatic victory over the Argentine dictatorship by the United States. Argentina has not been invited to the Inter-American conference in Mexico on February 15, 1945. Peron administration announces that Argentina will not belong to the Pan-American Union any longer. Names are read of some of the many Argentine Army officers whose parents are German. -- The Philippines (with MacArthur's forces in Luzon): The troops are about 100 miles from Manila.
