Summary
  • Danny Kaye Show. Eve Arden sneezes so Danny goes to the drugstore to get her two aspirin. The cast does "Romeo and Juliet" as it might have been heard had Shakespeare written it for radio. [Recording ends.]
  • Weekly War Journal. Headlines: Headlines: The Germans have now admitted that the Americans have crossed the Rhine at Remagen. Ludendorff Bridge is still intact. General Patton is in Koblenz. A 2000 plane attack has been made on Germany. Hitler wants to keep fighting until the Allies offer less than unconditional surrender. Russians have opened a new offensive in Silesia, Poland. Japanese on Iwo Jima are squeezed into three small pockets. -- Paris: The French are "enchanted" about news of the Rhine crossing. Victory celebrations are being pre-planned all over the world. A summary of our advances at the bridgehead. -- Washington, D.C.: There is an "orgy of speculation" about when the war will end. Hitler has said, "1918 will not be repeated" and Hillman adds, "and he's right." American Chiefs of Staff and the Joint Chiefs of Staff are meeting with Admiral Nimitz and General Wedemeyer to plan future war strategies and who will be supreme command in the Pacific theater. -- London: The British are surprised at U.S. preparations for victory celebrations. Optimists think victory will be between 1 week and the end of April. V-bombs over southern England and U-boat warfare dissuade the anticipation of a victory just yet. -- 3rd Army: The 3rd Army has reached Moselle. Many Germans have been captured by Colonel Creighton Abrams. -- Washington, D.C.: "Secretary of State Cordell Hull is right again." The Mexico City Conference has endorsed Hull's hard stance against Argentina. Latin America is afraid of Argentina's Peron and Farrell. Uruguay, Brazil and Colombia agreed to a security pact. -- Manila: [inaudible] [Recording ends.]
