Summary
The programs use videotaped interactions between patients and dentists (both professional and residency students). The appointments are first time visits and have not been scripted or rehearsed. The appointments are later reviewed separately by the dentists and the patients, and each person is given the opportunity to discuss what they were thinking or feeling during that time. The vignettes highlight brief statements by patients or dentists to demonstrate cultural issues and how they may be presented in the dental setting. The accompanying instructor's manuals provide information about the context of the appointments and vignettes, as well as cultural issues that arose during the sessions. Also included in each manual is a list of suggested classroom discussion questions
